I am one of the great grandsons of Nicholas and Elizabeth Juratowitch.
Over the past few years I have spent some time trying to find some of Nicholas’s ancestors and some more information about him before he arrived in Australia. Last year I managed to find his family (Đuratović) and visited some cousins in Croatia and discovered 3 cousins from other branches of the Croatian family living in Australia. I also managed to find when and how (and perhaps why) Nicholas came to Australia. I also have a Đuratović family tree dating back to 1460. The work I have been able to do has added to all the information that Pat Kavanagh and Marie Stewart collected in their research of the Kavanagh family over the last 30 odd years. Greg Juratowitch and I are also attempting to find some more information about what Nicholas was doing from when he arrived in the country to his marriage in 1861.
I thought perhaps it would be a good time to have a meeting of his descendants in Australia and the 3 cousins from Croatia who live in Australia. The plan is to have a family gathering in Singleton on the weekend of October 20th and 21st when all the information we now have will be available.
